The creek has over 50 fish greater than 24 inches.
There are a few very large trout that approach 30" and 12 pounds.
That all depends. Many factors make fishing
challenging, and our spring is no exception. All of the fish are
easily spooked as they can see anglers very easily through the clear
water. We also have a few spots where big fish tend to hold.
The surrounding brush makes casting difficult to these fish, but it also
makes for excellent trout habitat. We have provided several open
casting areas where new angler will have very little trouble placing a
fly over fish.
We think that every fishing experience should be
between you and the fish and not a competition among anglers for a good
spot.
We recommend at least 1 week in advance.
Weekends are busier than weekdays.
Absolutely. Because the water is so clear, your
approach and first cast become critical. Limit your false casts to
the absolute minimum. Any cast landing within 10' of waiting fish
is likely to spook them. If you can land a fly short and let it
drift into the feeding lane of the fish, you'll improve your success
rate considerably. Also, try to use reach casts where most of your
line lands on the bank, vegetation, etc. and only the leader and fly is
presented to the fish.
Absolutely not! We have more big fish per mile
than any other creek around. You're much more likely to have a
successful day at our creek than any other stream. We've hosted
several first-time fly fishing instructional clinics at our creek and
all anglers have been very successful.
Trout are a limited resource. Catch and keep
fishing is not a sustainable method for our creek. We require that
fish are returned immediately to the water. As long as the health
of the fish is not in danger, we encourage you to snap a photo before
releasing. We can recommend several local taxidermists who can
make an outstanding fiberglass replica of your fish. All you need
to provide are a picture of the fish and length/girth measurements.
We allow artificial lures only with single, barbless
hooks. So, you can use a spinner or other artificial lure.
No baits or attractants (i.e. Dr. Juice) are allowed.
