When we arrived the BWO hatch was just ending, but
Dad managed to hook one of your bigger fish but he lost it. Then things
got really slow for a while. We tried all kinds and sizes of nymphs. The
fish would just swim out of the way. We noticed that most of the fish
were just holding. There was very little feeding going on. However the
larger fish would chase the smaller ones around a little bit. So after
lunch Dad worked a purple bunny leech and I stripped a very large Double
Bunny. We each hooked one super nice fish and we each lost it! Then it
just died again. We continued to throw flies but they weren't moving.
About an hour and a half before dark the micro caddis made an appearance
and we finally got into some of the smaller fish 14" to 18". The big
ones weren't interested. I think the day had a lot to do with the
weather, blazing sun all day, they were really spooky. It was nobody's
fault but our own that we didn't land any of the big ones. Sight fishing
like that is really a lot of fun. We were very impressed that the large
fish that we found, (and hooked), were VERY large.
